How many players will leave Manchester City at the end of the season?
Man City are having its best season in history. The team has already won the Premier League and will be playing the final games in the FA Cup against Manchester United and in the Champions League against Inter.
Some footballers haven’t had enough playing time, but most of them are seeking new challenges. We still don’t know whether they will leave City or not.
Ilkay Gündoğan
32-year-old German captain Ilkay Gündoğan has yet to make a decision. Gündoğan will have the final say at the end of the season, but for now, he is fully focused on the last two important games. According to some media sources, if City wins the Champions League, Gündoğan could potentially leave Manchester for Barcelona.
The head coach of Barcelona Xavi has reached out to Gündoğan multiple times, offering him a significant role within the Barca system. With Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets set to end his career at the club this summer, Xavi sees our skipper as the perfect replacement for Busquets.
Pep has mentioned several times that he wants to continue working with Gündoğan. The German captain has consistently delivered in crucial moments, scoring goals and providing assists when they are needed the most. He has shown great composure and effectiveness when the team relies on him.
Ilkay Gundogan made his move to Manchester City in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund, with a reported transfer fee of £20 million. On August 14, 2022, he was selected by his teammates as the new captain following the departure of Fernandinho. There is no way he would join Arsenal or any other English team, as all rumors regarding his transfer to Arsenal are false. Since joining in 2016, Gundogan has played 302 games, recorded 58 goals and 40 assists.
Bernardo Silva
Let’s be honest, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne didn’t have a particularly strong performance against Real Madrid in the second leg. However, it was Bernardo Silva, who stepped up with two goals and dominated 20-year-old Eduardo Camavinga on the left side.
Exactly, on this very day in 2017, we secured Silva’s signature for £43 million from Monaco. Barcelona made several attempts to acquire Bernardo, as Joan Laporta, a big admirer of the Portuguese player, targeted him. In 2015, Monaco defeated Blaugrana even though virtually everything was agreed with the agent. However, Silva opted to play for our team in 2017. Last year, when City demanded at least £70 million, the Spanish side simply didn’t have enough funds to meet the asking price.
According to French sources, PSG is now looking to replace Lionel Messi with Bernardo, making him their primary target for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Pep after the Real Madrid game: “He is one of the best players I’ve ever seen in my life…”
Silva: “I know exactly what Pep wants with my eyes closed“.
Bernardo is Guardiola’s favorite golden boy.
Aymeric Laporte
Aymeric Laporte was visibly emotional and in tears during the Premier League trophy celebrations. It seems that he is prepared to pack up and leave Manchester City at the end of the season due to limited playing time. Despite Ake’s injury, Pep Guardiola chose to prioritize Manuel Akanji even in the left-back position.
The Spaniard joined Manchester City from Athletic Bilbao, primarily attracting Guardiola with his exceptional passing abilities. His transfer to City set a record-breaking fee of £57 million. It is believed that Josko Gvardiol will be brought in as a potential replacement in the squad.
Laporte has now won the Premier League title five times with Manchester City. We remember when he played through injury during our defensive crisis last season. Throughout his time at the club, Laporte has remained always professional.
Cole Palmer
21-year-old Cole Palmer has been considering the option of going on loan to seek additional challenges and gain valuable experience. Despite receiving several offers, he ultimately chose to remain at Manchester City. However, with the recent arrivals of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland, Palmer has found it difficult to secure playing time. As a result, there is a significant likelihood that he may join a newly promoted team in the Premier League or a club in the Championship to further his development.
Kalvin Phillips wants to stay and fight for his future. Phillips, still believes he can find a place in Pep Guardiola’s system.
37-year-old Scott Carson has extended contract with us until 2024.
Maximo Perrone and Sergio Gomez will keep a place on the board.
The fate of every footballer will be decided after the Champions League final and all we need is to win Champions League.
