Celtic made an attempt to acquire the 21-year-old Spanish footballer, left-back Sergio Gomez, from Manchester City on Deadline Day for 12 million. However, both the player and the club rejected Celtic’s proposal.

Celtic found themselves in desperate need of a left-back after Scottish player Greg Taylor sustained a serious injury.

Gomez discussed the transfer situation with Pep Guardiola and even requested to be allowed to go on loan. Despite this, Guardiola assured Sergio to stay and promised him more practice time.

This season, Gomez has only made 10 appearances (totaling 358 minutes), with just 18 minutes coming from the Premier League. He has mainly been involved in Cup and Champions League matches.

Guardiola recognized Gomez’s quality and potential since 2010, where our boy was a member of Barcelona youth team until 2018.

Ultimately, Gomez joined Anderlecht before we signed him for €15.00m. Sergio has the potential to bring high-quality and productive plays to the team, capable of contributing as a left-back, left midfielder, and winger.
